White Rock Spring Games – Apr. 17th
Looking for another way to be part of the neighborhood and the larger East Dallas community? Registration is now open for the 2015 White Rock Spring Games, to be held Friday, April 17th at Lake Highlands Park. Sponsors, volunteers, and competitors are needed! East Dallas students from grades K-5 are invited to participate. The entry fee is $25 per individual – or $100 per 4 person team. Each participant must have a brief waiver on file, which can be completed online. Participants receive event t-shirts.
One way that individuals and businesses can help is to sponsor a team. For $100, you can sponsor a team of four kids who might otherwise not be able to afford the entry fees. Event staff has information about students from East Dallas schools who are eager to participate if given financial aid. To become a Fund A Team sponsor, e-mail Pamela Zeko at pamela@whiterockgames.com.
All proceeds benefit the parent-teacher organizations from students’ specific schools. Last year the games generated over $31,000, split among 20 different East Dallas schools! Again this year, on top of ALL the entry fees going back to the schools, Comerica Bank will donate entry-fee-matching funds to each participating school, for the first 50 students at each school. (That means that if 50 or more participants from your school participate, your school’s parent-teacher organization will receive $25 from each child’s entry fee, and Comerica will donate a total of $1,250 on top of that!)
A detailed schedule of events is available here. Competitions will commence at 5 PM Friday, and will end at 8:30 – there is a 30 minute break built into the schedule for families to visit and eat dinner (bring your own). A dance party/wrap-up will take place from 8:30 to 9 or 9:30 PM. Activities for which medals will be awarded shall include: the individual distance run, the individual 50-yard dash, the team tug-of-war, the team potato sack relay, and the team warrior run relay. Each age group will also have the opportunity to play a game of outdoor laser tag just for fun.
Even if you do not have a school-aged child in East Dallas, this is a wonderful chance to get outdoors and support something positive in the community! Please consider volunteering or sponsoring today!
