Now through Jan. 10th – Giuseppe Penone “Being the River, Repeating the Forest” Exhibit, Nasher Sculpture Center
“I feel forest breathing/and hear the inexorable growth of the wood… / I match my breathing to that of the green world around me.” –Giuseppe Penone, 1968
[Quote from nashersculpturecenter.org]On Sept. 19th an exciting new exhibit of works by Italian sculptor Giuseppe Penone opened at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. “Being the River, Repeating the Forest” – the only American museum exhibition of Penone’s work in over 30 years – is currently on view Tuesdays through Sundays (not Mondays), from 11am to 5pm daily. Admission is free to members, or $5 to $10 for others and includes access to the entire Center and all of its exhibits. On the first Saturday of each month, admission is free to all! For complete details on hours and ticketing, visit this page, which will open in a new window.
Penone’s bio from the Nasher Center website states,
From his conceptual and performative works of the 1960s and 70s to the large-scale sculptural installations of the past 10 years, Penone has explored intimate, sensate, and metaphysical connections with nature. Working in a stunning variety of materials—including clay, wood, stone, metal, plaster, resin, acacia thorns—the artist makes palpable and present the analogous processes of nature and art.
The brief set of images from the exhibit, available on nashercenter.org are simply stunning.
Being the River, Repeating the Forest will be on view now through January 10th, but don’t wait for your chance to see this breathtaking meditation on the power and beauty of nature!
